Duty Manager - Skukuza
Description:

Job purpose

 

  • The purpose of this role is to ensure the wellbeing of all guests during their time at the resort, maintain a high level of host presence throughout and ensure the overall smooth running of the resort at all times when on duty

     

Duties and responsibilities

 

  • Oversee daily Front Desk duties and activities

  • Supervise Front Desk staff

  • Assist with scheduling of staff

  • Troubleshoot all guest issues and problems

  • Determine and process all guest payment issues

  • Inform General Manager of any major issues

  • Assist with Guest Check In and Check Out and ensure all correct procedures are followed

  • Ensure high level of customer service is maintained at all times by all Front Desk staff

  • Assist with cash, credit card and debit card payments when necessary

  • Assist with all incoming telephone calls to Front Desk lines

  • Assist guests with all questions and reasonable requests

  • Maintain clean and tidy appearance of all staff

  • Ensure Front Desk area is clean and tidy at all times

  • To assist with all departments in times of pressure – where reasonably possible

  • To liaise with guests and ensure a strong host presence at all times, passing relevant information onto staff especially specific requirements or arrangements

  • To deal with complaints quickly and efficiently and find suitable solutions to any problems that may arise, communicating issues the GM and colleagues in a constructive and clear manner

  • To assume responsibility for the running of the lodge in the absence of senior management

  • To coordinate guests and staff during an emergency and have good knowledge of fire procedures

  • To be aware of and promote all services offered in the resort and group

  • To liaise well with all departments, ensuring that communication of the day’s activity is clear and understood

  • To liaise with Reception and Housekeeping regarding arrival rooms and prioritisation where applicable

  • To complete daily inspection of all lodge facilities ensuring a checklist is completed

  • To complete a Daily programme detailing all of the following days important notes including specific guest requirements or complaints

  • To ensure that all appliances, fixtures and fittings are safe and work in accordance with the Health and Safety regulations, reporting any faults to the Maintenance and or General Manager

  • To complete a full handover with the previous and following Duty Manager communicating directly where possible

  • To take overall personal pride in appearance and work performance

 

  • Any other reasonable requests as made by the General Manager



Skills/Requirements:

Qualifications, Experience and Competencies 

  • Grade 12

  • 3-5 years relevant front of house or related experience

  • 3 years solid customer service experience

  • Customer and Personal Service — Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction

  • Administration and Management — Knowledge of business and management principles involved in planning, resource allocation, leadership, and coordination of people and resources

  • Public Safety and Security — Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions

  • Time Management — managing one's own time and the time of others.

  • Problem Sensitivity — The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem.

    Working conditions

  • Possible night shifts
  • Weekend, Sunday and public holiday shifts
