OVERVIEW OF POSITION:

Safari JOBS is searching for a Minimum Back up Trails Guide for an incredible 5* Safari lodge based in the Northern Cape. The Guides focus purely on guiding, providing private, intimate safaris that are customised according to the guests' personal needs and expectations.

The guiding team at this lodge consists of a small compliment of guides that are close friends and get along exceptionally well.

The team does everything together including socialising, exercising, and all stay close together. As such, we are searching for that Guide that will fit well into this teams' culture that have great personalities.

**Applicants invited for interview will be flown to the lodge, return, via either Cape Town / Johannesburg.

REMUNERATION & ADDITIONAL BENEFITS:

  • (Dependent on experience, qualifications and suitability)
  • Salary is negotiable based on FGASA level, Trails and relevant Tertiary qualifications.
  • (Level 1 = R6500, Level 2 R7500, Level 3 = R8500+ if additional tertiary qualifications related to the field)
  • Provident fund contribution
  • Medical aid contribution
  • Bonus scheme
  • Accommodation (single) and utilities
  • On-site staff transport service
  • Cycle leave flights from/to the lodge on scheduled service to Cape Town/Johannesburg
  • Relocation allowance equal to salary for moving to the lodge
OTHER ADDITIONAL NOTES:

  • Due to the overall staff compliment at this property, the package doesn't include meals, although the accommodation has a kitchen area with big bedroom, bathroom and living room.
  • The guides do get their overtime back in day value.
LEAVE / WORK CYCLE:

  • 56 days on, 19 days off
  • (Couples will go on leave together)

Skills/Requirements:
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

GUIDE:

  • Minimum 3 years working experience as a field guide in a Big 5, 5* lodge environment.
  • FGASA qualified
  • Minimum of a FGASA Back-up qualification
  • (Preferably a Lead Rifle qualification)
  • PDP
  • ARH & rifle competency certificates
  • Code 8 Drivers licence and PDP

HABITUATOR:

  • This is a good opportunity for someone that is hoping to become a guide or any Nature conservation student.
  • Must have a PDP.
  • Habituator position is a renewable 6 month contract.
  • The individual will share the duty with another Habituator - Morning 4 hours and afternoon 4 hours.
  • They will also from time to time be involved with conservation work.
  • Very seldom assist with guest transfers and staff game drives.
  • There is more than enough time during the day for you to study if are studying.

  • The guides do get their overtime back in day value.
  • The Habituator seldom works overtime, but if they do those hours are paid out.
  • It may happen that the guide has more days off than the Habituator but the Habituators generally take unpaid leave if they want to go on leave outside their leave cycle.
